Gold Line Selects IT Channel Group and Exinda Networks to Ensure Quality of Service for Voice over IP Customers
Exinda 4700 Prioritizes Voice Traffic and Optimizes Gold Line's Network
November 8, 2005-Richmond Hill, Ontario- The Gold Line Group, the largest provider of prepaid long distance calling cards in North America , has selected IT Channel Group to implement Exinda Network's traffic management solution for its Voice over IP (VoIP) offering. Exinda's 4700 appliances prioritize VoIP traffic on Gold Line's high speed network and ensure the highest quality of service for Gold Line's VoIP users.
Gold Line's mission is to provide high quality communications, low cost products and outstanding service for its customers. In November, 2005, Gold Line introduced its new VoIP offering, called G L Phone. G L Phone is a new way of sending and receiving calls across Internet connections. The calls are made by using simple instructions on a Gold Line hand set or adaptor. The VoIP calls cost less than landline calls and keep customers well connected with family, friends and colleagues.
Gold Line's ARC Phone division, its engineering and research and development arm, is responsible for the design and maintenance of Gold Line's complex, high speed network. The network serves over 70 percent of the calling card market with over 175 million minutes of long distance calling per month. It handles switching capacity for over 60,000 ports and over 1,000 T1 lines in North America .
The Gold Line network uses a Cisco-powered network center & Siemens EWSD carrier class switches with 60,000 ports and capacity to terminate a billion minutes of calling per month. With Gold Line's commitment to high quality, the ARC Phone division was tasked with optimizing this complex network to prioritize the voice traffic.
"Optimizing Gold Line's network is a complicated task," said Arashf Bafekr, ARC Phone's technical director. "We needed to reserve a variable portion of our bandwidth for our VoIP users. We were looking for a solution that could provide easy-to - use optimization and detailed reporting."
After testing several competitive offerings, ARC Phone purchased Exinda Network's solution. Two Exinda 4700 appliances, each of which runs at 100 Megabits per second, were installed in a high availability failover configuration. The appliances prioritize VoIP traffic and ensure the highest quality of service that voice users expect.
"After thoroughly testing several vendors' solutions, we selected Exinda because it offered the best combination of packet shaping functionality, ease of use and support," said Bafekr. "We're very pleased with the results."
